  1. Joe Russo. Thankyou for a most interesting account of our beloved Aeolian Islands. I have read and re-read it several times and find one piece of what is written totally inaccurate.
Post the depopulation due to the happening of July 1544 people from Filicudi were required and attended to form an administrative group together with Spanish. Sicilian and Campanians. Your account states that ‘the other islands at the time were uninhabited’ That is grossly not the case.
I personally have documentation of who the first Council was made up of and it clearly notes that people of the minor island were present there.
That the minor island were inhabited prior to the events of July 1544 is undisputable fact. The people of Stromboli and Filicudi were not taken by Barbarossa due to the hurry and distance of Barbarossa’s mission. Some people of Lipari were spared also and for the same reason. They lived in the more interior of the island in the location of Varisano di Supa.
The book written by Leopoldo Zagami [born in Alicudi] entitled “Lipari and it’s five millenia of history” is something worthy of quoting from.
